Working hard so you don’t have to.
Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go! I know, I know, but I will not take the heat for this one. The blame falls squarely on the shoulders of Mr. Tim Wakefield. I understand he’s an innings eater. I understand he is the senior member of this ballclub. I understand he’s the consumate team player. Pitching in relief. Pitching on short rest. Pitching whenever the Sox need him. I get all that. I even commend him for it. But, he is not winning. He is not even putting his team in a position to win.
Last night was just gross. Example: A-rod strikes out. Perfect, right? Wrong. Passed ball. A-Rod to first. Takes 2nd on another passed ball. Takes 3rd on a fielders choice. Scores on a passed ball. Just disgusting. If this was Matt Clement there’d be a lynch mob out as we speak. Wakefield gets a pass. A passed ball. Its becoming very hard to take. Josh Bard was blamed 1st, and run out of town. Watch out Dougie, you could be next.
Wake is 3-6, with a 4.57 era and a ton of passed balls that do not get charged to him. But they’re there. And its his knuckleball that created them. The Public is getting fed up. When is it too much, or more precisely, not enough. Last night was a winnable game. 5 runs should be enough to beat this battered Bomber team. Last night, it wasn’t. Theo please get Dontrelle. I’m begging you. Rubber match tonight. Manny’s on fire. Go Sox!!
Clement Vs. The Eunuch tonight. AL East Baseball, where the men are men, and the games matter. Put on your NESN. Put on your YES. Take your shoes off. Put your feet up. Sit back, relax, and be a Sox watcher.
The Public at Large:
- Heat win. I’m an unabshed Antoine Walker fan. He comes up big in big games. He did last night, and he will again.
- I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I can’t wait for tonight’s West Coast NBA match-up. Run and gun baby, run and gun.
- Mets win in 17. Poor Ryan Madsen. Unbelieveable effort with nothing to show for it.
- Bulls get the Knicks #2 pick. Good job Zeke.
- Peter Gammons says Dontrelle is not available. The Public says he’ll be traded around the All-Star break. Yankees looking to get Soriano or Guillen. I hope they get Guillen. Alfonso is too good.
- If the Cubs continue to suck, look for an Aramis Ramirez trade.
- JJ Reddick doesn’t look like he’ll be drafted ’till around 13/14. That’s a mistake. A big one. This kid is a gamer.
- Not for nothing, but doesn’t Taylor Hicks look like Pedro Gomez.
- I’m not voting for Pedro. Give me the pretty girl with the big ass any day.
Public Figures:
- Doug Mirabelli went one better than Josh Bard, literally. In the Yankees’ 7-5 win over the Sox. One passed ball. The Yankees scored an unearned run without a hit when Mirabelli allowed three passed balls in the sixth inning. Bard committed 10 passed balls in 53 innings for Boston, but never more than two in one inning.
- Manny being Manny: For the second straight night, Manny homered on an 0-2 pitch against the Bombers. Over the last five seasons, the only other players to do so in consecutive games were Garret Anderson and Aaron Rowand, both in 2004.
- The Twins had to come from behind for a 6-5, 10-inning win over the Indians after Johan Santana blew a four-run lead. Santana has a career record of 40-0 with eight no-decisions when given a lead of four or more runs.
- The Pistons backcourt had a poor shooting night in last night’s loss to the Heat. Richard Hamilton shot 9-for-22 from the floor, and Chumpsey Billups shot 6-for-19. It was the first time in 27 years that both starting guards on one team missed at least 13 field-goal attempts in a conference final or NBA final game. The last time was in 1979, when the Sonics lost to the Suns, with Gus Williams shooting 4-for-22 and Dennis Johnson shooting 3-for-17.
Peace out homies! Six two and even.
